I was discussing this at one point with Badger, specificly going down and
shhoting a few. Still interested, Badger? September is the month when you
only pay by the bird, don't have to pay a "site fee". We could go down, have
lunch (they have a black lady, a Southern style cook, who cooks WONDERFUL
pheasant on Thursdays and Saturdays), and shoot for the afternoon. Would
cost us, tital, maybe $150 apiece, depending on whether we bought our
hunting licenses there, and how many birds we shot. They supply the bird
dogs, and wonderful dogs they are, too. Anybody else interested?

I used to go down there once a year, as my personal reminder that meat comes
from living things, before I started to do my own butchering.

Anyway, the address is :

Cherrybend Pheasant Farm
2326 Cherrybend Road
Wilmington, Ohio 45177
937-584-4269

Shooting them is $30 per cock, $22 per hen,
Live is $11 per bird,
Oven-ready is $18 per cock, $12 per hen.
Forgot to ask the smoked price, but I know from previous lunches, they're
absolutely delectable.

I'd like to shoot a few and skin them out, for later usage.

>Have any of us considered getting our various cooking guilds together
throughout the year and hosting a theme party. IE italian ren, game cooking
etc. The hosting group would handle main items and others bring sides to go
with. Mind you, if you are brewer or have an expertise in an area, I would
not hinder you. We could try out some items and discuss our documentation,
how/why we do things. And most importantly have food and get a good meal.<

Well, my cooking guild consists of me, myself, and I, but it's a good
thought- perhaps we'd better discuss it at greater length. I'm already
thinking about getting a couple and serving them next Pennsic. (You know
you're in the SCA when real life is a mere interuption between events, and
Pennsoc ;-)

They also sell Chukkar, $5.50 apiece, and quail, $4.50 apiece, both live.

We can most likely get at least the quail at a better price at our local
Asian markets- I get them at $5.00 a half dozen from mine.

Any more thoughts?

The World's Need

So many Gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
When just the art of being kind
Is all this sad world needs.
