What happened was that a year ago, during Pennsic, somebody (I forget
who) left for either Pennsic or some other trip, leaving their mail to
just pile up in theor mailbox. We got a lot of bounced messages, as well
as separate error messages. So, what we had in _our_ mailboxes was the
original posts to/from the cook's list, the messages bouncing back,
essentially identical except for a noptation that this message had
bounced, _and_ a message saying that so-and-so was away for an
unspecified time, and we shouldn't send any e-mail to that address, and
we should take it up with network/systems admin Mario Nebbits of the
Generic Bank of America.

Many of us were sufficiently upset by this state of affairs that we
started speculating on Mario Nebbits' various shortcomings, both
physical, moral, and intellectual, reducing him, more or less, to a sort
of scapegoat during the ordeal. There was talk, as I recall, of Mr.
Nebbits' table manners, politics, and sexual proclivities. As I recall,
someone writing from this address (but obviously not me; I'd never do
such a thing) started it all off by asking what the h*&@ kinda name was
Mario Nebbits anyway, and it sort of took off from there. It was more
interesting than Twinkies, what can I say?
