Although I do understand your meaning and actually sometimes wonder it
myself I do not feel that people are driven from this list. I would definately
not want for those very knowledgable contributors to stop contributing for
fear of deflating a couple of egos or scaring off people.

Some people come on this list that are considered the top cooks in their
area only to find out how little they really know. I'm pretty much in that
category. Some are brand new and afraid to say much. Others come in with
all of the preconcieved ideas that most of us have about period cookery.

I am frequently humbled on this list but I learn much more than I ever could
on my own or even from within my own kingdom. I have been criticized for
allowing too much frivolity on here but I allow it to show that these true
"cooking gods" are real people with senses of humor and not some beasts
that will devour you if you dare to serve corn at an event.

Things get prickly sometimes, as happens with all intelligent conversations
amongst fanatics. We try to deal with things in a polite and gentle manner
but still some egos get stepped upon. For this people have apologized and
the discussion continued.

People may unsubscribe because they are corrected or feel out of their league.
But there is nothing we can do about that. I would hope that gentles either
post that they are upset or at least send private emails before they write off
the entire list. I know people may do this but I know of no way to prevent it.

I would personally rather have my ego deflated and learn something than
continue in ignorance.

But I really and honestly do understand and appreciate your feelings. I feel
them too sometimes.
