Or acquired because your mother decided that she had had enough scraped 
knuckles so insisted that her children learn the basics and experience the 
'fun' at a very early age. I experienced my first file of knuckle flesh on 
the cabbage cutter at age 8 and by the next year was able to pass the  box 
grater on to my younger sister while i endured the  blisters of grease 
splatters from 'watching' the doughnuts fry. ;-)
