I think this originally appeared in Allen´s Simply Delicious Irish Christmas
(if I remember the title correctly) - published in paperback in 1989, I
don´t know if there was an earlier hardcover edition. I don´t have that
title here so I´m not sure but I know the Christmas cake recipe was there at
least. I´ve usually found Darina Allen to be careful about citing her
sources so there is something of a mystery here - she doesn´t cite McCormick
or mention his book in her bibliography so I was wondering if they might
both be using a third source without telling their readers.
