There have been two problems I've heard of with scandals about debit cards.

Someone bought something from a national company on the internet. A
disgruntled employee or somebody hacked their system, and got someone's
debit card number. The disgruntled employee was able to suck all the money
out of the person's checking account, it was something like $3000. The
person got most of the money back back but it took a while and was pretty
much because the national company was upset that this trust was broken.

If this had been a credit card the person would have gotten all but $50
back, and it would've been a lot less messy and stressful.

The same sort of thing happened to my brother, but was a little different
scenario. He had some software on his system, don't remember what it was
called but while he was connected to the net somebody got his account
number out of his quicken program and proceeded to debit card a bunch of
stuff through his account. So far my brother has gotten all but $200 back,
but it has been difficult and also financially stressful for them.

So I don't use my debit card for anything but in person store purchases,
and since I am even more paranoid then most, because my bank account number
is printed on my card, I did not sign my name on the back, but wrote ask
for photo id so that if I ever lose the card, someone won't be able to copy
my signature and use my card.

Hope this helps someone avoid what my brother went through.

Merry Christmas everyone.
