Sorbets and ices are , to all intent and purposes, equal. However, I was using
the terms, incorrectly of course, to differentiate between the very finely
gound fruit syrup flavered item served at a banquet and the more coarsely
ground ice with fruit syrup dribbled over it ususally found in more relaxed
activities..

I have no evidence that such a difference was observed in either the Mid-East
or in Italy during period.
