Um, I assume the statement wasn't meant to be taken seriously by anyone,
including its intended private recipient. After all, it would have been
very foolish for such a remark to be aimed at a group primarily composed
of American students of _history_, albeit amateurs, with any degree
either of seriousness or irony whatsoever.

I myself have been less than assiduous in the study of history, between
messing up cuskynoles and going around Europe shouting at all the
foreigners in American English so they'll understand me better, I simply
haven't had the time. At least the polyester leisure suit I wear when
travelling is a good, loud purple, orange, and flourescent green plaid.

And you know, you can't get good grits in Brussels, I hear.
