This is correct. Even modern lettuces that have a milky sap, if the sap is
collected dried and smoked produces mild effects similar to opium. Wild
lettuces which are common in most temperate zones have a more pronounced
effect than cultivated versions. During the late 60's and early 70's dried
wild lettuce was sold in most headshops as a legal alternative to marijuana.
