All right, y'all!
Now that you've made me hungry, I have to tell you about some of
our holiday meal- no, not the dinner, with the cider-baked ham, and all
the trimmings, but the _breakfast_.
See, we have in our family a tradition that the presents are not
opened until after breakfast, everyone dressed and presumably in their
right minds. Since this breakfast doesn't happen until I cook it, and
there are nasty forms of torture waiting for the foolish child that wakes
me before my time, I make an extra special breakfast. Sometimes we do
French Toast with the thick-sliced French bread. Sometimes it's quiche.
This year we had what we call 'Dutch Babies' (somefolks call then German
or Swedish of Dutch pancakes). Very like your Yorkshire pudding or
Popovers, baked in a 9x13 cake pan, they puff up and curl over around the
edges. Usually we smear butter and maple syrup over them, or cinnamon
sugar. This year, I found some lingonberries in the import section, so we
had those, with sour cream, on our Dutch Babies. At $8 a bottle, the
berries were a holiday treat, and were perfect with sour cream. Add lots
of thick-cut maple-smoked bacon, some quartered oranges and juice, and hot
tea, coffee, and cocoa, and we were all feeling quite mellow and nice
before the frenzy began. Yum! Wonder if there's any berries left in the
fridge?...
BTW, can lingonberries be grown here in the states? specifically
in Oregon?

the now thoroughly off her diet (wah!)
