I asked our bakery buyer, who sends and gets samples from across the country
your question and he said the best way, regardless of what method you send it
(UPS, US mail, Fed EX etc) is to wrap the loaves in extra plastic (just in
case the pack gets wet) and use packing peanuts all around, making sure the
loaves are solidly in the box (to avoid shifting).
