Greetings. 

      If you're looking to make a crispier crust,  put a pan of water
in the oven with the bread.  I highly doubt it's period, but for some
odd reason, it makes the bread crispier.  You could also try "misting"
your oven every once and a while, but that tends to lose heat.

     Jest my 2 cents worth.
