I'm going to try the recipe subbing in almonds as the recipe suggests.

But I'm a little confused about exactly what is ment by the fennel.
The way I read it is not very clear as towhether subbing some or all is
meant when the book says ''you can also use fennel which flowering or in
seed' .

My copy of the same author/same title is from Bloomsbury. The price in the
front cover £12.99, however I bought in Australia on sale for around
Aus$10.00 about a year ago, the store only received one copy. The ISBN is 0
7475 1961 7 and is 'first published in G. B. in 1995'

I'm assuming same book.

The dust cover of the book says 'here is the first english translation of
the best of Nostradamus' orignal recipes'
A modern german translation was published 1994

The forward says its an unabridged edition of Martius' translation who was
doctor of medicine at Augsburg. The book has a translation of the letter
that he wrote to her Lady Christina former Queen of Denmark about the book.

So it _ looks_ like the translations are as follows
Orginal french to geman (in 1572) to modern german (for published in 94) to
english.

(however at one point in the first of the two volumes is a paragraph which
basically says that the eighteenth chapter has npot been translated into
german 'becauses it teaches things that are not fitting for a Christian or
God-fearing man to know' )

side note the book has coloured illustrations of various plants done by
Leonhard Fuchs who died in 1566.
one picture which I opened the book at unintentionally of which is the
picture of a bean plant labelled 'FABA BON', showing the plant in all stage
of growth as all do. I cannot make out exactly the writing however around
the been seeds.
Also a pictrure of a melon of some description, peas, 'pomerankenbaum',
other fruits .
