I have to agree with Adamantius

My good Trident 10" when properly sharp (which is how I strive to keep all 
of them) is perfect for slicing my home-grown, vine-ripend Husky golds, or 
any other tomato we happen to grow.  It also does a wonderful job on 
chicken (raw or roasted with crispy skin) but I would never use anything 
but my serrated on bread or my (very OOP) chocolate zero cake (zero because 
it is enough trouble and expense that I only make it for events ending in 
zero... like 50th birthdays ;-)
