It really quite simploe. I look in cook book, decide that the wonderful cake
would be less expensive home-made. I measure exactly what it says, follow
exactly the steps involved down to using specific brand names if called for
and exact size pans. I stir, beat, whisk and fold the exact number of minutes
or times mentioned. Poor into the perfect pans, set it at the right height, at
the right temperature in the accurate oven. And stick little silver thing (or
a pice of broomcorn or a toothpick or a bamboo skewer , whatever's handy) into
the middle at the right time and give it a few more minures if necessary. It
then burns, stays raw in the middle, boils over the top, or sinks. :-)

It's really that simple. Now mind you I can bake a good cake if I use the
original unmodernized Fanny Farmer or Cooking with Tom Jones but never modern
cake recipes.

Then again we all have (or don't have) our several talents. :-)
