SC - Period Chili

Greetings All -

Would it not be possible to recreate something similar to chili with say,
tumeric?  What about nutmeg, cardamon and cumin?  Even these would lend a
somewhat recognizable flavor.  Anyone know the history on these or other
relevant spices?
