Several of you have said such things about various forms of mush (oatmeal,
grits, whatever) and the majority of you seem to think that people in the
north use sugar/etc.  and people in the south use butter and salt.  

I for one am glad to hear that _someone_ besides my sister and I eat
oatmeal with butter and salt.  Until now we were the only two I've met who
do (but we use milk on it too).  We grew up in Alaska, and our parents are
from Michigan and Pennsylvania, so perhaps that is why I've not met anyone
else who eats them "properly".  The thought of sweetened oatmeal turns my
stomach.
