Update:

According to ZD TV news..as of Wednesday at 3 PM, Yahoo/Geocities has 
restated it's policy. It's 'new' policy is that it does not retain 
ownership/copywrite of private content posted to user sites BUT does retain 
the right to use ANY content for promotional purposes.

I don't know if this is better or not but there you have it. :-)
