Well, that's six reasons to participate.
What the SCA is all about is sharing one's interest in the middle ages with 
others with the same interests.  We are an educational and recreational 
organization.  That means we try to recreate the lifestyle of the middle ages 
"as it should have been"  i.e. without the plague, the little ice age, and 
spouses or children going off to crusade and never being heard from again.  
Human slavery (which was practiced in the era in some European locations) is 
also a no-no.
While quite a few members seem to think the only reason for the Society is to 
give them a chance to fight, there are some of us more interested in the arts 
and sciences of the period.  I think there is a place for both in the 
Society.
