Well, I suppose now would be a good time to introduce myself as I stand up
with the younger crowd. (I'm 29, just for the record.) In the SCA, I'm
known as Sofonisba Alberti. I live in the West Kingdom and have been active
in the SCA for a little over two years, though I was aware of the SCA for
many years before that. My main activities are dancing, music, fencing, and
brewing. I've also recently become much more interested in cooking. I
suppose it probably takes a little longer for new people to start thinking
about period cooking in most cases, but I've often camped with people who do
period potlucks. Potlucks first started me wanting to research period
cooking, because I think bringing a potato salad to a period potluck is
about as bad as wearing jeans. (I suppose the next debate to come out of
that statement could be a discussion on whether the potluck itself is a
period concept. Perhaps not. But it does seem the easiest way to get
several dishes on the table at a camping event where everybody involved is
also busy with other activities.) And I've always enjoyed exploring foods of
other cultures.
