What are commonly referred to as cranberries and high bush cranberries (two
completely different species) are New World.

A related Old World species is the karpolo (Finnish) or tranbar (Swedish,
second a umlauted). The English cowberry or foxberry (same plant) is
probably a true cranberry.

AFAIK, they were not cultivated, but may have been gathered for use in
period.
