Commercial gum paste mixed with powdered sugar is a staple in making the 
decorations for wedding cakes, i.e. fancy flowers, baskets, grapes, leaves 
and so on.  They can be carefully painted with dry colors and even gold and 
silver leaf--though I can't think anyone would want to eat the stuff.
