There is a fair amount of info on pumpkins and gourds in this file in the
FOOD section of my Florilegium. Unfortunately, while there are a number
of referances quoted, none of the messages gives much info on where to
find these gourds. Ras I know, has grown some himself, but that is not a
viable possibility for many people. The file does give some of the modern
common names, so perhaps that would give you something to use in looking
for them. The file is:
vegetables-msg (164K) 3/ 1/99 Period vegetables. Recipes.

There is enough info in this file on gourds that I will probably move
it to a new file, gourds-msg in the near future.
