The same Old World gourd.  They are found in Pre-Columbian digs in Central
and South America and on the East Coast of North America.

Since they are believed to be of African origin, the commonly accepted
theory of introduction is accidental drift to the New World, unless one is a
diffusionist, then they are evidence of prehistoric oceanic trade.

IIRC, the earliest known New World sites give at least an 8,000 year window
for spreading the plants through the Americas before Columbus.

And, of course, the New World cucurbits.
