Please consider:

1.  Carpet is expensive
2.  Some stains don't come out
3.  Accidents happen
4.  There are plenty of non-red punch recipes

Actually, it is the seniors rather than the children who are the worse in 
chronic spillage-just look at the Sunday School room floors on Monday 
morning.  Kids will gulp down their punch quickly, but a palsied senior may 
travel all over the room, nursing a cup of punch (or coffee) and 
continuously scattering drops like a husbandman sowing seed.  And when your 
vision is not as sharp as it used to be, it is likely you won't even notice 
that you're doing so.
