I find most medieval dishes, once you have spent the intitial investment in a
few unusual spices, can be less expensive than mundane recipes.
One reason is that because of the cooking times involved, you can use less
expensive cuts of meat, and coarser fresh vegetables, sometimes even canned
vegetables will suffice.
You CAN elect to choose fancy recipes or use expensive ingredients, but it is
simpler to cook the simpler fare than it is to choose the fancy stuff.
