Greetings to all here, My name is Lord Jean Luc de Brest. I am in the
Barony of Dragon's Laire in the Kingdom of An Tir. I am a fencer but I am
also interested in Period food, and Casting Techniques. I have been in the
SCA for a little over 5 years. I have been lurking for a couple of
Months. I wish to thank everyone for the recipies and ideas. As I will be
Autocrating my first event with a feast, I thank you all for sharing your
wisdom, and giving me ideas on how to help my feastacrat.
I decided to come out of lurking to offer a couple of facts. I have a B.S.
degree in Physics where I specialized in Nuclear Physics. There was a
comment about irradiation of food. This does nothing to the food as it is
not living tissue, all it does is kill off the little nasties so the food
will be edible in the far future.
Now to the food allergies my wife is mildly allergic to pork (I think it
could be considered Mild, it givers her diarehha and stomach cramps if she
eats to much, One Sausage McMuffin will not start this but two will.), and
my son is allergic to pork. It does not make him sick or anything but it
does change his attitude and winds him up tighter than a cheap watch. This
is even on top of the medicine he takes for his ADHD. So he has learned
not to eat pork. He is a very picky eater but if he decides he wants to
try something the first thing he asks is if there is pork. He can not even
have the dish if it contains Lard. So I always ask the cook what is in the
stuff to make sure he does not eat something that may contain even a
little pork in any form.
