No, that wasn't really a joke. I've only been playing for about a year now, and
subscribed to this list (and a couple of others as well) for about the same amount
of time. I live in southern Meridies, so don't have a whole lot of experiance with
Ansteorran feasts, but the feasts I have been to (Meridian) seemed to have worked
really hard at period recipes. Maybe I've just been fortunate. I will say that
prior to my starting playing, I kind of considered food just another form of fuel.
Basically, if it was edible, that was fine with me. I've changed a bit, and
started playing with different recipes. My cordials are another story. I was
fortunate enough to find a photo-copy of a 9th century Arab pharacology, and used a
number of recipes from that as a starting point. Anyway, I have to admit that
playing with the SCA has changed my cooking (and eating) habits quite a bit.
