Actually contemporary accounts record that he asked the executioners to
remove him from the gridiron so he could see if the judges preferred
their meat rare or burnt.

Other possibilities include St. Martha, also known as a patron saint of
cooks (ask Ras), and my own favorite, The Dagda, whose cauldron, in
Irish and other Celtic mythology, was always full of whatever food or
drink anyone wanted, and which could heal the sick and restore the dead
to life (more or less a pre-Christian version of the Holy Grail).
