The Virginia Housewife was the FIRST cookbook I ever owned followed by an
early edition of the Boston Cookbook. These were purchased many years before
I even knew there was an SCA. :-) It is from those 2 volumes that I learned
to cook outside the family circle of cooking. Although neither book has any
bearing on medieval cookery the techniques for preserving meats, etc., are
timeless and are being quickly forgotten in this age of microwaves and
preprocessed cardboard. Highly recommended!
Phlip, you have yourself a treasure house of good recipes. :-)
Congratulations on your purchase.
