>From the way the recipe is written it's hard to say really isn't it?  The 
answer is that  the beer is supposed to be put into the cheese mixture.  Of 
course there would be some beer left over, as you don't use too much or the 
cheese mixture becomes too liquidy....

Maybe the answer's both?  (for drinking and putting in with the cheese and 
milk) ;-)
