NQPB:
A few years ago the local (Holmrike, i.e. Stockholm, Sweden) SCA group
was invited by one of the 18th century reenactment groups[0] to their
New Years Ball. Apparently it was quite common with historical
reenactments (and live role playing[1]) already back in the 18th century
in court circles.

[0] No, not French and Indian war. This was the civilized world, they
where reenacting the court circles around Gustav III of Sweden, IIRC.
[1] I am told there exist "manuscripts" for "medieval fantasy" LRPs
staged by King Gustav III of Sweden. A friend of mine wants to set it
up.
