Thank you for your thought.  Yes, I have met such tin hats in my experience
and loathe their actions.  I have seen some of them demolish a new member's
pride of accomplishment in A&S projects with no thought for their feelings
and allowance for their newness to the SCA.  I have seen laurels who gripe
about authenticity to excess in their own ballywicks, but are not so
fastidious or demanding in their own costuming or other projects.  They also
tended to be very critical of anyone's cooking but their own.  Fortunately,
many of the folks have decided to bitch elsewhere and are no longer active.
I think I also use the term to describe those few who seem to think peerage
is a nomination to godhood rather than a responsibility to preserve the
ideals of the Society.  I'm afraid that I still sometimes think about those
types too much, especially when deserving folks get snubbed and passed over
for recognition they have earned.

Certainly those in the SCA who stress authenticity are not all in this
catagory in my mind.  In fact very few are; some of them like Caradoc I hold
in very high regard (occassional awe).  It is to me a question of attitude
and caring about others.  If I have  offended anyone with my remark, I
apologise.  But I still think there are people out there who fit the
description.   If the kind of folks I call authenticity Gestaspo in kingdoms
outside my own are not tin hats, then I congratulate your past royals for
their good judgement and wisdom.  Of course, there is little one can do if
the A.G. tin hat was gained through attaining the Crowns as consort.

Bear with me. I get relapses of hoof and mouth occasionally.
