Here is the listing for Advent from my book. My sources are from many
religious publications. I don't know if the comment regarding Pentacost
was a typo, but Pentacost (aka Whitsunday) commemorates the event of "The
12 Apostles gathered 10 days after Jesus' Ascension into Heaven and the
Holy Spirit descended on them. Called Pentecost because it takes place 50
days after Easter, the day came to be considered the beginning of the
Christian church because it inspired the Apostles to begin preaching
their Gospel. The English named it White Sunday, or Whitsunday, because
until the 4th Century it was the day when, dressed in white, many people
were baptized." So, I'm not sure about the 'Christ the King Sunday'
reference, but this one falls in early summer.

Andro's Day - Ancient Greece
St. Andrew's Feast Day (61) Patron Saint of Scotland, Russia, Greece,
Fishermen, Sailors, and Spinsters; Invoked against Gout and Neck
Problems. Apostle, traveled to Asia Minor, Macedonia and Greece. He was
martyred in Patras, Achaia, for baptizing Maximilla, the wife of the
Roman governor there. He was convinced the baptism was the reason his
wife would no longer sleep with him, and a spinster cult grew up around
Andrew. Luther describes German maidens holding bizarre rites on Andrews'
Feast Day to be granted visions of their future husbands. He was tied to
a cross in the shape of the letter "x"-now called St. Andrew's Cross. He
preached from the cross for 2 days before he died. His relics were taken
to the far ends of the earth, and some ended up in Scotland. (St.
Andrew's Cross is the main charge of the Flag of Scotland) His bones rest
in Amalfi, Italy, and produce a mysterious oil known as Manna that runs
down the sides of the altar on Jan. 26th, 28th, and on his feast day. He
is also credited with the initiation of the game of Golf.
Advent* - The Sunday closest to St. Andrew's Day begins Advent. Called
the "Christmas Lent" in the Middle Ages, people fasted, marriage and
dancing were forbidden, all culminating in a large Christmas feast. Now
celebrated with Advent calendars, and Advent wreaths with four candles,
one for each Sunday before Christmas.
Midwinter Horn Blowing * - Midwinterhoorn Blazen - Oldenzaal, Netherlands
- - During the advent season, the people of Twente in the east of Holland
blow special horns to chase away the evil spirits of winter and to
announce the birth of Jesus. Blowers make their own horns out of 1-yr-old
elder saplings, 3 or 4 feet long. They blow them over wells to that they
sound deeply, like foghorns. They start at 5AM on Advent morning, then
play every morning until Jan. 6th. In pre-Christian times the horns were
blown this time of year to banish evil spirits in the time of the long
darkness.
