Brandu asked:
> I am preparing an article on foodstuffs served on Ships during period, especially during late period. I have lists of foods that were served, but I was wondering if anybody had recipes that I might also include, such as salmagundi, ship's biscuit, hardtack, ragout, etc.

You might take a look at these files in the TRAVEL section of my Florilegium:
ships-bib (18K) 6/21/96 Bibliography of ships and things nautical.
ships-msg (74K) 9/23/99 Ships and shipbuilding. Sailor's food.

I know the second has some material on ship's biscuit and I think some
other items. I'm not sure what the bibliography has on ship's food but
it might be worth looking through.

I thought hardtack and ship's biscuit referred to the same thing? A twice-baked
bread?

Brandu, I might be interested in including your article in the Florilegium
if you are interested. I can hold it until after publication of another
newsletter if you wish.
