Alex asks:

>Are those European pheasants that are hunted in pheasant season, or
American ruffed grouses? <

The pheasant we have in the US is definitely the European/Chinese import
they were deliberately imported here as a game bird. We in Ohio have been
having to restock them after the disastrous winters of the late 70's because
they just weren't designed for our environment/ecology. There is no
mistaking a true pheasant for a ruffed grouse.

Look at this picture of a ruffed grouse at:

http://www3.upatsix.com/apws/ruffed.htm

and compare it to this picture of a pheasant at:

http://www.fred.net/mullen/pheasant.html

There's no mistaking them- a ruffed grouse looks like a miniature turkey-
pheasant do not spread their tails in that manner.

The World's Need

So many Gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
When just the art of being kind
Is all this sad world needs.
