BREAD
(This recipe is obviously not period but produces a period looking loaf. It
is easy for those inexperienced in bread making or who are on a limited
budget).
Makes 8 Servings

3 loaves Frozen bread dough, thawed
Lard

Reshape dough into rounds. Place rounds on a greased baking sheet leaving at
least 2 inches of space between each loaf. Brush with melted lard; cut an X
into the top of each loaf with kitchen scissors or a sharp knife. Cover with
a cloth and let rise until doubled.

Preheat oven to 350 deg F. Bake until golden brown and bread sounds hollow
when thumped. Brush with lard and cover with a cloth until cool.

(NOTE: For a nice presentation serve high table's bread in an attractive
basket or wooden bowl lined with a cloth. Cover bread with a similar cloth.
Or you can form each of the 3 loaves into 12 small balls and let them raise
with the same amount of space between them forming nice perfectly round
manchet-type rolls. I used rolls for high table and loaves for the other
tables).
