Hamsters, believe it or not, were only 'discovered' (ie by a literate
European) in the last 100 years (in North Africa? if I remember rightly?).
Before that they lived their fluffy little lives in happy ignorance of the
vast majority of humankind. Probably why there are no widely circulated
recipes for them. Anything you find for them is modern (and considering how
small they can be, probably nouveau cuisine).
