Yep. It's not really a matter of quality. It's the simple reality that
people tend to prefer what they're used to, the taste of home, if you will.

So yes, that comment from the people that eat Flake bars, not to mention
Bird's Instant Custard Powder (they have instant trifle too! just add
water and watch the sponge cake puff up before your eyes!) and
lard-based ice cream. More to be pitied than censured, IMO. But from
their point of view the American counterparts to those products are
alien and taste, well, wrong. No doubt there is a range of product
quality, as there is anywhere. I'm sure you can get good chocolate,
custard, and ice cream there, but I never did.
