The only Gazpacho recipes that I have have tomatos as
a main ingredient, which would not be from any period
prior to Columbus.  Do you have a Gazpacho recipe that
doesn't contain tomatos?

As for tracing articles in the Smithsonian, have you
tried "Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature"?  All
major libraries should have a copy of this and should
list all articles in Smithsonian.
