As has been pointed out before there is a special meaning attached to the
word with the SPECIALIZED group called the SCA. Fixing something that isn't
broken is not a good thing, IMO. Until you come up with a better SINGLE word
for the process that is as universally recognized as the current SINGLE word
is why bother harping on it? Words change with usage and continued usage will
result in the edition of another meaning for the word redaction. English is
not a static language but continuously changes.
All the energy taken to correct people's language to the standard version
might better be used by contacting dictionary writer's and educating them in
the correcting the error they have made by not including a definition of
redaction as it is used by a specialty group.
As indicated before many specialty groups use words that, if seen outside
their respective study, is used in a totally different way. The fact that
this word is used for a specific meaning makes it valid. Dictionaries do not
define the language, the living language does, IMO. If the use is understood,
why say it is not?
We have been over this thread several times during the past few weeks and
personally I would like to see it put to rest for a while. Of course, free
discussion is immanently important as is the use of the delete key. :-)
