Please explain something to a city boy. What is the purpose of the nose rings
and what good does it do to have more than one? From the way you say this, I
assume that the ring helps you control the animal. I can see that if the ring
is in a tender place, yanking the ring may get the animals attention. But what
does an extra ring do, much less eight more? And if the bull is that mad, do
you really want to get close enough to grab that ring?

Is there any evidence that nose rings for animals were used in this way in 
period? I'm thinking of animals other than the horse since I imagine the
bit works in a similar way.
