Sometimes, usually it's because the food is meant to feed the comers and the 
family for the function, but not meant to feed them afterwards.  I usually 
leave them whatever I make so they have stuff to eat that they don't have to 
make an effort on during the time of need.  That's usually the way it 
happens in my area too, now those people over the mountain to the north of 
me may have different ways.
