If you haven't already read it, get hold of Sharyn McCrumb's hilarious 
book, _Highland Laddie Gone_.  It's a murder mystery set at a Highland 
Games in Virginia.  She manages to convey a deep respect for 
Scotland and Scottish culture, while wickedly parodying the fake and 
pretentious aspects at such games.  (Like tourists wanting to know the 
"correct" clan tartan for Vincenzo or Rosenthal or Singh -- and 
merchants who are willing to tell them which one to buy.)
