Adamantius sez:

>(the first time I've ever seen a recipe that begins with the word,
"recipe", which is, after all, supposed to mean "take", and is apparently
the reason
they're called recipes). <

FYI, Cassell's Latin dictionary says on recipio ( the verb):

1. to hold back, retain
2. to take back, draw back, fetch back
3. to take back, regain, recover
4. to receive, accept take to oneself

It's a combination of re/capio, re- being an inseparable particle, meaning
sometimes back, sometoimes against, and sometimes again, and capio meaning:

1. to take, to seize, to take possession of
   a. to take in hand, to take up, to adopt
   b. to take or choose a person, to select out of a number
2. to catch, to take possession by force, in a hostile manner
    a. to seize, to take possession of
    b. to attack, to injure (in some specified way)
    c. to charm, captivate deceive
    d. (at law) to convict
3. to receive, to take money by force or bribery, (legal) to take as heir
4. to take in, to hold, to contain
    a. to grasp, to comprehend
    b. to contain, keep in.

The World's Need

So many Gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
When just the art of being kind
Is all this sad world needs.
