SC - Russian Black Bread

IIRC - and my memory is spotty right now.... (per my grandmother -
family recipies) the old bread was ground/crumbled finely and used with
the flour for the new loaves.  Nothing was wasted.  you get a fuller
flavour and a darker bread as you made more bread.

let me know if anyone else has this in their family.  I am sitting on
about 20 years worth of 'translating' and actually writing down recipes
that I only know the 'feel' of.  most recipes were not written down, but
handed down literally.  From my grandmother's hand to mine, the flour,
oil, eggs.....as I made her recipes.
