To some extent I do agree with the "elitist" tag. In a positive way.
Remember -- but don't restart! -- the Trimaris Issue. If someone wants
to serve BBQ and corn on the cob, we do get rather sarcastic, but that
is well deserved, since there is no more excuse to do that in an SCA
context than to claim that Nikes are ok garb (yes, some need them at
times, but they are like glasses; some need them, and then they have to
use them, period or not[1]).

But we -- as a group -- are not elitist when it comes to wellcoming
newbies, or helping the more inexperienced out. All you need to do is
ask if something is way above your head. I have never seen a refusal to
explain something in simple terms.

[1] I've known one man who consistantly wore period glasses at events.
Right kind of frames for his time and all, even if the glass and
grinding was modern.

[IP datagrams via email] It's been done. Some lunatic at SICS wanted to
prove that if *any* sort of two-way communication is let through a
firewall, one can piggyback IP over it. -- Calle Dybedahl
