OK just for kicks, I put one of the recipes from the Manuel de Mujeres
through the Babelfish translator - here's what it came up with. I like
"tapada" which translates as "woman who hides herself with mantel" a lot :->
<I put it through the Go translator too & got basically the same thing>

Prescription for empanadas of quinces the cleaned quinces and facts quarters
to put them in a frying pan, to cover them with water and honey. And putting
the frying pan to the fire, to return the quinces many vezes. And desque is
white, quitadlos and to do the empanadas ones. And puttings the slices of
the quinces in the empanada one, to put sugar and cinnamon superficially;
and of the honey in which they have cooked, one little. And woman who hides
herself with mantel the empanada one, cooks in the furnace. You will do upon
empanada a hole and, to average cozer, you will throw to him little other of
honey; and they will finish cozer. And to see if they are cooked or you will
not do thus: to put by the hole a wood, and if the honey makes thread they
are cooked and if no, no.

Here's the original FYI
