Well, I can attest to the wonderful, friendly,
open-heartedness of Australians.

Many years ago, I went to visit my pen-pal, who lived
in Melbourne. While there, there was a terrible
hurricane, which hit and destroyed Darwin. My pen-pal
was an airline hostess and had her vacation cancelled
until they finished air lifting the sick, the injured,
the children and the pregnant mother-to-be's to
safety.
I had several days on my own, so I decided go shopping
on foot and by bus, rather than sitting on my duff,
waiting for my hostess to be free. Unfortunately, I
got royally lost and turned around. While trying to
find some landmark that would clue me as to where I
was, I met a wonderful little old lady, who noticed my
predicament. She asked me if I was lost, which I
confessed that I was. She then asked if I was
American, which I confessed that I was. She pointed
out the best way to get back to my friend's apartment
and then said, "You know, dear, it is so close to tea
time, you should join me for tea and fortify yourself
before going back home." She invited me in to her
beautiful old home and served me a wonderful tea of
tea and crumpets with homemade strawberry jam and
Devonshire Clotted Cream. We had a delightful chat as
well. I would have stayed longer, but I wanted to get
back to the apartment before it got dark. I will
always remember Mrs. Stuart and her hospitality.
