Does it matter, whether it is lengthwise or crosswise? or since the
fibers tend to run lenghwise, does "shredding" something tend to
imply that you shred it lengthwise, along the fibers?

When the directions say "shred", how long are the shreds supposed to
be?

Being a new cook, this is meant to be a serious question.

And what does "IMNTK" mean?
